So Kelsey Thinks She’s a Blogger

Dear friends,

In proper blog etiquette, this first blog post is where you write your “About Me” section… however, if you’re reading this, there is a very good chance you know more about me than I could write in this text box, so let’s skip to the more important topic… why on earth did I choose to start a blog?

So here’s the deal. I married the love of my life this past June. Before then, we went through a couple sessions of premarital therapy which included an exercise called “3 wishes”. Each spouse wrote on a list 3 things you wished the other would do more or less of “I wish you hung up your towel” “I wish you spent less time on your phone” … you get the idea. Here’s where this becomes important: my now husband took this time to wish I prioritized myself more. He wished I spent more time with my friends, spent more time baking, and he wished I found a creative outlet. *insert gut punch here*

I am a perfectionist in every sense of the word. I don’t share things that I can’t do well, and I don’t typically create things unless there is a purpose. So when he challenged me to find a creative outlet, I froze. Our engagement period had been one full of to-do lists, appointments, decisions, and anxiety. It left very little time or energy to find a new outlet… and honestly, the perfectionist in me spent a majority of the time planning how to be creative instead of acting. Each time being written off with a “oh that would be a disaster” “you’ll never be good at that” and a big “people will judge you for that” which quickly pushed the creative outlet away.

Fast forward to the honeymoon, where my sweet new husband and I spent our time daydreaming about our future together, when it was brought up again: my life is so structured and linear, I needed some sort of creative outlet to grow. Secretly we both knew, I love writing and always have… but when I write it becomes a process of editing, and perfecting, and formatting, and perfecting, and rewriting, and reperfecting, hoping that nobody will judge what is written.

So here it is: the solution to the problem, the answer to my husband’s request, and a new challenge for me. A blog without edits, without purpose, and without worry about judgment. Please read, enjoy, and laugh as this perfectionist attempts to live life a little less perfect.

Kindly Yours, Kelsey
